Below is a presentation I have given at several universities that summarizes 1) my work in criticizing short timed-impromptu essay assessment; 2) the relationship of that genre to the very dubious success of Automated Essay Scoring; 3) using the BABEL GENERATOR to demonstrate that the construct being measured by AES machines is not human communication; 4) explain positive uses of Automated Essay Evaluation, especially WriteLab.
